Our Volunteer Webmaster and Site Admin Travis Rowland was picked up just a few hours ago on charges related to filming a police officer during a traffic stop on his own property.
He's currently being held at Clatsop County Corrections on "Contempt of Court" for not appearing at an "Attorney Status Hearing" he didn't know he had to appear at.
Travis and his family need our help right now.
Here is the account of the matter from his wife Nina, the mother of his three children:
My name is Nina Rowland and I am the wife of Travis Rowland, whom i will be speaking about in this letter. Travis Rowland was arrested today December 1st 2012 at approximately 3:30pm for Contempt of Court for a misdemeanor.
This arrest occurred because he had failed to appear in court just a few days ago to inform the judge of who his attorney is(which he doesn't have at this point).
Travis Rowland's original charges are "interfering with a peace officer". This all started in the beginning of September 2012. He was arrested when he was simply observing a friend of ours with a police officer on our property and was filming.
Our friend was pulled over in our driveway for failure to maintain his lane. My husband went down to their location in our driveway and immediately informed the police officer who he was and that he simply just wanted to observe and nothing else. Travis then proceeded to hand the officer his identification card and the officer refused and then told him to back off. Travis took a few steps back and told him again he was just there to observe the situation and nothing else. The police officer then told him to go away back to his house. Travis told him no. A few seconds later, the police officer, grabbed Travis by the arms and threw him up against our friends truck and then to the ground attempting to obtain Travis for his own safety.
Travis passively resisted until he was further informed after being secured in hand cuffs on the ground that he was being arrested for "Interfering with a Peace Officer." Travis is now in the process of finding an attorney and trying to get the charges dropped. We feel he did nothing wrong in his actions.
This arrest has affected our family tremendously. Travis and I have 3 children and are all under the age of 6 years old. I currently do not have any income while Travis is in jail as I am a stay at home mother and Travis provides the household income.
This is extremely stressful for our children as they don't understand what has happened to their dad and why. This puts extreme stress on me as I am taking care of the kids by myself when I am used to doing it together. I have no family or friend support and that is very hard to deal with as well. I have no idea what to do right now, as I am on my own and I have no resources.
I do not know any information on when Travis will be released at this point. Our children are very upset and hurt by this and they just want their dad to come home.
Travis's Bail is set at $1000 and I have no way of getting that right now. We have over $1000 in bills coming up in just a few days and that as well is not possible. I am very worried about Travis's mental state as well while he is in jail. He has extreme anxiety and depression and being in jail is not good for him at all. Im afraid he may get sick or have an attack. I am trying my very best to get the resources to bail him out right now and so far have had no luck. I do not think this is right of the law to do as it was an honest mistake on Travis's behalf. And, for his bail to be set so high is just ridiculous. Anything helps at this point. Thank you very much.
