Newt wanted it. Newt thought he needed it. Newt thought he had it. Newt’s people announced it was coming. And then everything changed.
Mitt got an endorsement he did not need. Mitt got an endorsement he did not want. From a megalomaniac forever in search of an audience that will genuflect upon command. From a charlatan who has generously shared his 1% with the likes of Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer, Rahm Emanuel, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Charles Rangel, Ted Kennedy and the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee. From an insufferable chatterbox who shot his negatives into the stratosphere during his brief three week flirtation with the Republican nomination.
Lessons here. Per Newt. Don’t go announcing that you have an endorsement before you do. Per Mitt. No one made you stand there. You may regret that you did. Mrs. Romney looked pained, by the way.
